Keets Privacy Policy

Keets is a location-based exploration app that reveals the map as you move through the real world. Privacy is a core design principle of the product. Raw GPS coordinates and precise movement traces are processed on your device and are never uploaded to the Keets backend. In guest mode, your explored-map data also stays entirely on your device. If you sign in with Apple or Google, your explored map — the coarse grid of roughly 100-metre cells you have revealed — and your quests are synced to your account so your progress is preserved across devices; your raw GPS tracks and precise routes are still never uploaded.

This policy explains what Keets processes, what is stored locally on your device, what may be sent to Keets or third-party services, and what choices you have.

1. What Keets Does

Keets uses your device location to determine which map grid cells you have explored. The app can do this while the app is open and, if you grant background permission, while the app is in the background.

The core exploration model is privacy-first:

• Raw GPS coordinates are used on-device to compute explored cells and are never uploaded.
• Explored cells and fog state are stored locally on your device.
• In guest mode, nothing about your explored map leaves your device.
• If you are signed in, your explored cells (a coarse grid of roughly 100-metre cells) and your quests are synced to your account so you can restore your progress on another device. Your raw GPS tracks and precise routes are still never uploaded.

2. Data Stored On Your Device

Depending on how you use the app, Keets may store the following locally on your device:

• Precise location readings used to compute explored map cells in real time.
• Explored grid cells and fog progress.
• Quest data you create or pin in the app.
• App settings and tracking preferences.
• Authentication tokens stored securely on-device if you sign in.

This local data is used to operate the app and personalize your experience on your device.
